Class 1 had a lovely afternoon visiting St Peter’s Church in Byers Green on Tuesday 14 May. The children were very grateful to Rev Friswell for taking the time to show them around the beautiful building and answer all their questions.
On Tuesday 30 April each class took part in workshops based around the theme of ‘Exploring Christianity around the world’ led by Chris Hudson from Barnabas in Schools. At an age-appropriate level the children were able to:
- explore in depth how the Christian faith is lived out in other countries
- understand Christianity as a living world faith
- use interactive and reflective activities to find out how Christianity began and developed
- learn about Christianity today in countries such as Ethiopia, Argentina, Spain and Russia
- compare differences and similarities in Christian faith and worship, as well as the key beliefs that are common across the world.
Class 2 had a great day visiting Durham Castle on Thursday 25 April. The children really enjoyed touring the building and finding out about its features and history. They also loved making their own castles out of cardboard boxes!
We hope you had a great Easter break. School reopens on Tuesday 23 April 2019.
A huge well done to the 36 children from KS2 who took part in the school stage of this annual chess competition throughout the spring term. The highest scorers in each category (14 children in total) have qualified for the regional stage which is known as the Megafinal. This will take place on Saturday 18 May at the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle. We wish them all the best of luck!
We would like to say well done to all the entrants to our Easter egg competition on Friday 5 April. As always the standard was ‘eggstremely’ high! We hope the winners enjoyed their chocolate treats.
Class 2 had a lovely day at Gilside Cottage and Farm on Thursday 4 April. They would like to thank Mrs Gilson for making them feel so welcome.
We would like to thank the NSPCC and Buddy the mascot for visiting us on Wednesday 3 April. They delivered age-appropriate assemblies about staying safe from abuse and neglect to the infants (Class 1 & Class 2) and the juniors (Class 3 & Class 4), followed by a workshop for Class 4. The children were taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or Childline.
Congratulations to our Y5/6 netball team for their performance at Whitworth Park Academy on Tuesday 2 April. They achieved 3rd place and were delighted to receive bronze medals.
